DA VINCI CODE'S INFLUENCE

In February 2004 I read the bestseller The Da Vinci Code and wrote "Da Vinci Decoded: A Response to the Religion of the Da Vinci Code."  This response is still posted on our church web site.  This week I saw the movie and added a chapter to my booklet.
The difference between the book in 2003 and the movie today is that few people are treating the movie as anything more than fiction.  The book fooled many into believing that there may have been other versions of Jesus which the church had suppressed.  My biggest concern about the movie is how it defines faith as believing whatever version of Jesus you choose.
The movie presents Jesus as likely being only human, but with the possibility that he may be divine.  It sounds so nice and tolerant to say that we can all

believe whatever we want about Jesus and there is no difference.  Unfortunately, truth and facts are critical in the world of faith.  To believe the world is flat has no influence on the world and to believe in an alternate Jesus has as much benefit as believing in a flat earth.
In I Corithians 15, Paul writes that Jesus appeared to over 500 people after his death and resurrection.  Paul adds that if you do not believe Jesus was resurrected, ask one of those witnesses.  The point of the whole New Testament is that Jesus is the Savior.
Christian faith is grounded in history, taught by an inspired book, and focuses on a perfect Savior.  A self-defined religion lacks the power of God to transform us into the people we are created to be.
